Standard Register signs health care deal

Standard Register signed a three-year printing deal with St. Louis-based Amerinet, a national healthcare group purchasing organization. Standard Register is one of two suppliers addressing Amerinet members' document management needs. The agreement offers Amerinet members savings on a wide range of document and print management products, services and technology that includes commercial printing, custom and standard forms, label products, patient identification bands and on-demand digital printing...

American Reprographics makes deal

American Reprographics, Walnut Creek, CA, has acquired the assets of London-based The Reprographics Warehouse Ltd., a provider of document management, document reproduction, and related services to the architectural, engineering and construction industry in England. Interestingly, the company is ARC's first wholly owned reprographics company in the U.K.

Adobe's biggest launch ever

Adobe has today taken the wraps off the latest version of its Creative Suite product family, CS4, in what it described as its "biggest software release to date." CS4's grand unveiling included the launch of CS4 Design editions, CS4 Web editions, CS4 Production Premium and Adobe Master Collection, as well as 13 point products, 14 integrated technologies and seven services. Adobe CS4 and its associated point products are due to ship in October 2008.

E-books have long way to go

Companies are backing the resilience of print ahead of the launch of Sony's new electronic book reader later this week. The reader, which can store up to 160 books, features an e-paper display, and supports a range of file formats. Print and electronic media can work alongside each other but e-books certainly still have a long way to go--they're projected to account for less than 1% of the book market by 2010. PGSF continues to fuel tomorrow's print industry

The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) announced a new scholarship named in honor of industry veteran Brian W. Gill. This scholarship, funded through a donation from the Employing Printers Education Trust (EPET), will allow current and future graphic arts students and employees to develop skills. The scholarship is funded with a gift of $100,000, and will provide more than $5,000 financial assistance to a deserving student each year. Congratulations to PGSF and EPET for helping fuel...

Goss, manroland settle patent suit

Press manufacturers Goss International and manroland resolved a U.S. patent infringement case involving web offset press sleeve blanket technology. Goss began the case five years ago, claiming that manroland’s Rotoman S press infringed on three of its U.S. patents for sleeve blanket technology used in its Sunday web offset press models. (Heidelberg Web Systems, acquired by Goss, filed the suit in 2003.)

Recent proof that technology is changing the way books are sold, stored and consumed: Students attending the University of Texas will find something missing from the undergraduate library this fall—books.
